SENATOR Barnaby Joyce claimed the Federal Government was delaying passing a coal seam gas water trigger bill to keep independent MPs on side, on Monday.

The bill, which creates a water trigger for big coal mines and coal seam gas projects, is currently before the Senate, awaiting the next sittings later this month

Senator Joyce said the government had prevented it being put on the notice paper in an effort to ensure support for the government from cross-benchers.

But the bill was last debate at Senate sittings three weeks ago, and is understood to be again added to the notice paper in the lead up to next sitting week.
