Join celebration of our wetlands
A COMMUNITY event, jam-packed with fun activities, is being held on the banks of the beautiful Richmond River in Ballina on Sunday.
Put your creative cap on from 10am until 3pm, opposite the Ramada Hotel in Martin St, and help create a healthy, colourful wetland on a giant canvas with frogs, platypus, birds, fish and plants.
Be part of helping this healthy wetland come alive with crayons, pencils and pens and see the finished canvas publicly displayed.
Enjoy a sausage sizzle, face painting, jumping castle, live entertainment and Mandy Nolan as emcee. Dress up and come as your favourite wetland crusader, whether it is a frog, platypus, dragon fly or turtle.
WetlandCare Australia is hosting this fun community event as part of celebrating 20 years of achievements working with local communities to promote, protect and restore our precious wetlands.
The organisation’s Kylie Bott said it had done a lot to raise awareness of wetlands over the past 20 years.
“Wetlands are a really important part of our environment,” she said.
“Things have changed a lot over the past 20 years, but there is still a lot more work to do.”
During their 20 years of operation, WetlandCare Australia has held 360 community training field days and workshops with 12,500 participants.
