John Parker excited to be appointed as new Chronicle editor
THE Fraser Coast Chronicle has appointed a new editor after a lengthy hunt for the right candidate.
APN group online news editor John Parker will take up the position on May 19.
Mr Parker, 52, has worked in newspapers for 36 years, holding senior editorial positions at News Ltd newspapers and across the APN network in print and online.
"I'm excited to be taking up this role at a time when newspapers and their associated websites are more vital to their local communities than ever before," Mr Parker said.
"We have a key role to play in listening to the community and delivering accurate, well-explained news in a compelling and interesting way.
"I'm keen to speak to as many people as I can to find how we can best deliver a service that will meet our community's needs."
Mr Parker and his wife have a daughter, son-in-law and baby granddaughter in Hervey Bay and have been frequent visitors to the area for the past four years.
Fraser Coast Chronicle general manager Darren Bosley said this was an exciting appointment for our media.
"We are extremely fortunate to have found someone of John's experience for a position that our readers understand is an important role," Mr Bosley said.
"It's an exciting time for the Fraser Coast and we are proud to have John's services to lead our editorial team."
