Jet aborts takeoff after being hit by ... a fish

A JET was forced to abort a takeoff from a Florida runway after being hit by a fish.

The incident happened in September last year, but has just come to light.

The Tampa Tribune reports reports MacDill Air Force Base wildlife manager Lindsey Garven was originally called out to search the runway for a dead bird.

The crew of a  Gulfstream G-IV jet reported  the incident after they noticed the aircraft had  hit something.

While they initially thought they had hit an osprey, a full inspection of the runway revealed the true scale of the problem.

The fish was a 22cm Garven, which ground staff believe may have fallen from the beak of bird as it flew from the runway.
