Its a paddle challenge

PADDLERS, get ready for a challenge.

It doesn't matter if you enjoy a social paddle on our waterways, or you like to take your paddling a bit more seriously, this weekend's paddle events will have something for you.

The Ballina Paddle Regatta is organised by the Ballina Lighthouse and Lismore Surf Life Saving Club and the Kawaihae Outriggers in Ballina.

On Saturday, October 27, the Australian Outrigger Canoe Racing Association will hold a short-course and open-water challenge event.

The short-course event of about 8km in the estuary will start from 8am, while the longer event of 18km will start at noon, paddling from Lennox Head to Ballina.

On Sunday, the Ballina Island Paddle Challenge will be held, starting at The Spit on the Richmond River.

The social paddle of about 10km starts at 10am, while the more competitive paddle begins at 10.30am.

A 500m dash for cash will start at noon.

The event is open to owners of all paddle craft.

Proceeds will go to the surf club, the outrigger canoe club and the Ballina Jet Boat Rescue service.
