Summonses issued for Royal Commission into insulation scheme

ALMOST 100 summonses to appear or produce documents to the Abbott Government's Royal Commission into the previous government's home insulation scheme have been issued.

And those expected to give evidence include former prime ministers Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard, among a host of Labor figures from their governments.

The Royal Commission has confirmed it has sent 95 summonses to produce documents for the inquiry, as it prepares for public hearings set to begin next month.

While it did not confirm who it has summonsed to appear, Fairfax on Tuesday reported Mr Rudd and Ms Gillard had been issued summons.

That report also named former Labor ministers Peter Garrett, Greg Combet, Wayne Swan, Lindsay Tanner, and current Opposition front-bencher Penny Wong, among those who have received summons.

The commission will investigate the whys and wherefores of the previous government's insulation scheme, which contributed to the deaths of four young tradesmen.

A spokesman for the commission on Tuesday confirmed staff had already held "preliminary discussions with potential witnesses", and a number of people had approached the commission to give evidence.
