Infiniti Q60 throws down the gauntlet to premium competitors
BROODY yet powerful, that made Game of Thrones star Jon Snow the perfect fit for Infiniti's new Q60.
Kit Harington, who plays Snow in the ever-popular series, stars in the commercial versus from William Blake's poem The Tyger and showcasing the two-door coupe which has just gone on sale in Australia.
Priced from $62,900, only the base model Q60 GT is available now with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The heavy-hitting twin-turbo V6 will arrive in March next year, but the circa 300kW beast will set you back nearly $90,000 plus on-roads.
This is an important halo offering for Infiniti - the brand which is the luxury arm of Nissan. It's the equivalent of Lexus and Toyota.
Lexus also had to undertake a long and dedicated apprenticeship in Australia, and Infiniti is four years into its initiation,
Many would have seen the brand on the lapels of F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo, and Infiniti is looking to do things someone differently - you can even find a retail shop among Gucci, Rolex and Prada at the Gold Coast's swanky Pacific Fair shopping centre.
This Q60 certainly looks the part with head-turning capability.
When it comes to performance, the turbo four-potter is strong and reliable with a sprint from standstill to 100kmh in 7.3 seconds.
Basic equipment includes 19-inch alloys, eight-way electric adjustable and heated front seats, front and back parking sensors with rear view camera, six-speaker CD stereo with DAB radio, full Bluetooth connectivity, sat nav, cruise control, as well as solid safety kit including automated braking when a forward collision is detected.
There is an enhancement pack for an extra $3000 which incorporates a 13-speaker Bose sound system sunroof and around view monitor.
Boot space is massive compared to its predecessor, up 100 litres to 342. That's better than most small hatches and sub-compact SUVs.
The rear seat back also folds.
The primary storage spot for phones and other devices is in the console - but that is where you find 12-volt plug, dual USB and auxiliary ports. There are two cup holders found between passengers front and back.
