'I'm sick of changing my daughter on the disgusting floor'
DAD-of-four Chris Mau has done his fair share of nappy changes, but when he took his youngest daughter, Kali, to a restaurant toilet and found no changing facilities, he was furious.
But Kali was crying, distraught at her dirty nappy, so Chris made the hard, disgusting choice to change her on the floor.
"I had to help her"
"As I entered the washroom, I noticed the two sinks crammed in the small counter space and a urinal across from them, and behind another door was the toilet," Chris wrote on Love What Matters.
"I … entered the stall only to find nowhere to change my daughter. I was immediately frustrated with the ignorance of the facility and with Kali crying, I had to make the hard choice between either making her wait until we found a facility that had a changing station, or ease her discomfort and change her in the bathroom anyway."
Chris knew public toilet floors are dirty and "the condition of the bathroom was less than sanitary, but the crying of my children eats at the very fibre of my being and I had to help her."
He did something most parents have done: he laid a towel on the floor and changed his daughter on the floor of the stall.
"All the while my mind raced about how unnecessary and preventable this entire situation is," he said.
"It's crazy to imagine, I know, but dads take care of kids too"
Chris was so angry about the situation, he posted a private rant on his Facebook page. "I'm getting pretty sick of having to change my daughter on a disgusting floor because the only changing table in the place is located in the women's bathroom," he posted. "It's crazy to imagine I know but there are guys who take care of their kids too you asshats."
The post was popular, and one of Chris' friends said it needed to be shared with the world. Apparently many people empathise with his situation; the post has been shared close to 150,000 times.
"Ugh! I agree," commented Shania Levesque. "I had to stop at a gas station to change my daughter and even I had to change her on the floor!"
"This pissed me off, like these restaurants are sexist," wrote Aleasha Elderkin. "Moms aren't the only people or parent to change diapers."
Yvonne Chafee Prince said she would have taught the restaurant a lesson. "I would have changed her right on a dining table! When the manager showed up I would have told him to put his bare azz on the bathroom floor!!!"
Jessica Rose called on Ashton Kutcher to comment. "ASHTON KUTCHER WHERE ARE YOU?! This has been one of his crusades for the longest time. He would be inspired by this post."
"I'm dumbfounded that my post has gone viral"
Chris is shocked by the public response to his post. "I couldn't believe it and I still can't … the feedback from other parents all cheering me for bringing the problem all of them have faced at some point in both men's and women's bathrooms worldwide!" he wrote.
"In this day and age there is no excuse [for there not being] a changing station in every public place with public restrooms.
"I honestly hope this post will reach all the right people and good things will come out of it for all parents and children alike."
