Former Laidley man hungry for big burger record

A FORMER Laidley man is building his appetite to take on the "tower of power".

Isaac Martin spent his first 20 years growing up in Laidley and now lives in Melbourne.

On Saturday he will attempt a Guinness Book of Records bid for the largest burger eaten in Australia, a whopping 20 patties weighing 150g each, on a custom-designed triple-decker bun, joining five others as they try to eat their way into the record books.

Mr Martin said the current record was set at Ze Pickle on the Gold Coast.

"That was 15 180g beef patties with cheese and sauce with an hour time limit for a total weight of 2.7 kilos," he said.

"I'm going to attempt 20 150g patties with cheese and sauce.

"That's three kilos of beef alone!"

Mr Martin said the venue, Cafe51 in South Melbourne, had set a time limit of 30 minutes for the record attempt.

"They're using my attempt as a challenge to help us get sponsors," he said.

Mr Martin said this was not the first eating challenge he had done in Australia and overseas.

"I even have a Facebook page and YouTube channel I started recently dedicated to it, called 'Sir Eats-A-Lot'," he said.

"I also have a mate who does it. His page is 'chompamatic'. He'll be there on the day as a challenger too."
