Morcombes vow to maintain Walk for Daniel
UPDATE: DANIEL Morcombe's mother Denise has vowed to keep running Walk for Daniels for as long as people keep coming after about 1200 people walked for child safety on the Sunshine Coast this morning.
Bruce and Denise Morcombe said they were delighted with the huge turnout and the fact that 1500 schools around Australia were taking part in Day for Daniel activities.
Denise Morcombe said the day was her favourite of the year, and one that a big team of volunteers worked towards all year to ensure the child safety message of recognise, react and report reached as many children as possible.
Premier Campbell Newman said the Morcombes had started a 'revolution' which had created greater awareness of child safety across the nation.
Mr Newman handed over $30,000 to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation so it can continue its work.
He urged Queenslanders to continue supporting the foundation's work by donating to the cause, saying as more and more schools requested child safety packs and DVDs, the costs of running the foundation, which is mainly staffed by volunteers, grew.
Mr Newman was joined by his wife Lisa, Federal MP Wyatt Roy, MP Mal Brough, Mayor Mark Jamieson and local councillor Jenny McKay on the walk.
Mr Roy shared a speech from Prime Minister Tony Abbott paying tribute to the work of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation and highlighting the importance of its work.
EARLIER: QUEENSLAND charity Act for Kids has joined forces with the Daniel Morcombe Foundation today for the annual 'Walk for Daniel' event.
Day for Daniel aims to raise awareness of child safety in the Sunshine Coast region.
This year's event has special significance in the Sunshine Coast region, with the Daniel Morcombe Foundation forming a partnership with Act for Kids to set up a new integrated therapy service at the Daniel Morcombe Foundation in Woombye.
Today's walk will see hundreds unite in red for Daniel.
One of those is Josh Hannah, who has taken part in the walk for the last ten years.
