Ghosts become hot property

THE Grafton Ghosts playing jumpers have become prime real estate.

Not because they'll be hanging from a clothes line on a two-hectare block fronting the Clarence River, but because two rival real estate agencies have won the right to have their names printed on the reigning Northern Rivers Regions Rugby League premiers' jumpers.

The Ghosts have decided to adopt home and away strips in 2012 and at their annual sponsor's draw on Friday night at the Albion Hotel something bizarre transpired.

Bailey and Gough First National were drawn out for the home strip, and then minutes later they were drawn out again for the away strip.

"When I rang the boss of Bailey and Gough Derek Morgan and told him he was over the moon," Grafton Ghosts president Neil Payne said.

"But he rang back 20 minutes later and said he would like to donate a re-draw for the away strip.

"The committee thought the best thing to do was have a re-draw. We had 29 ping pong balls with numbers corresponding to the sponsors and you wouldn't believe it but LJ Hooker came out.

"When I told Derek (that) LJ Hooker was drawn out he couldn't believe it - three draws and three real estates drawn out."

Payne said he was straight on the phone to Matt Dougherty from LJ Hooker who was slightly amused by the whole situation.

"Matt couldn't help but laugh," Payne said.

"He told me he's sure there will be a bit of banter in the car park as both real estates are next to each other in Prince Street," Payne said.

Grafton Gas and Plumbing won the right to have their business name printed on the under-18 jumpers while the reserve-grade strip will feature Nanobuild Pty Ltd.
