TEEN sensation Kai Hing has had a dream preparation for the upcoming world junior titles - a week spent free surfing with world No.12 Julian Wilson.
Hing, 16, flies out to Nicaragua today for the ISA World Junior Championship, which starts at Jiquiliste Beach in Tola early Sunday morning.
He will be joined by two other Coast competitors, Eli Steele and Isabella Nichols.
Hing and Coolum Beach star Wilson were in Sydney last week shooting a video for a mutual sponsor.
It was his first shoot with Wilson, who is currently in Fiji for the World Championship Tour's Volcom Fiji Pro.
"It was really good because he was going into an event as well," Hing said.
"It was good to see how he was surfing leading into an event and how he was getting himself ready."
It will be Hing's third consecutive world juniors and third in the under-16 category.
His best result was equal 15th in Panama last year.
With an extra year experience and not having to compete against older rivals like the past two years, he is confident of a good showing.
"I feel that I'm more confident than last year coming into the comp," he said.
"I know what to expect. I'll know how to compete while I'm there and what I need to do to get to the top of my game."
Hing won the Taj's Small Fries in Western Australia in January, which followed his win in the final event of the prestigious Rip Curl Gromsearch at Coolum in December.
That victory secured him the overall Gromsearch title.
In April, he made the quarter-finals at an under-21 event, the ASP's Rangi Pro Junior in Rangiroa, French Polynesia.
A February free-surfing trip to Hawaii, where he was able to observe some of the world's best at close quarters, including US great Kelly Slater, was also a valuable experience.
"My year has been one of my best," Hing said.
In Nicaragua, Steele and Nichols will compete in the under-18 and under-16 categories respectively.
Former Coast surfer Quinn Bruce will represent Australia in the under-16 division.
