Helicopter’s amazing beach rescue

The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter yesterday performed a winch retrieval on the South Ballina beach near Empire Vale of a 29 year old female who suffered multiple injuries as a result of a horse riding accident.

Due to a high tide, the helicopter was unable to land at the scene, so a winch recovery was performed which involved winching down to the scene the onboard paramedic and doctor who used a stretcher to help secure the patient for winching.

The patient was then flown to the Lismore Base Hospital in a stable condition.
