Heat replaces Badree with England paceman Mills

BRISBANE Heat has signed England T20 International left-arm paceman Tymal Mills to replace injured West Indies leg-spinner Samuel Badree.

The 24-year-old Mills will make his BBL debut on Wednesday night for the ladder leaders at the Gabba against the Perth Scorchers.

Badree suffered a minor hamstring injury in the loss to the Sydney Sixers earlier this week.

Because of a congenital back condition, Mills has had to give up long-form cricket and focus on T20 and one-dayers.

In 2015 doctors found spinal cord and vertebrae were too close together and bowling fast too often could aggravate his back pain.

So he changed his training and was rewarded with a debut for England in a T20 international agains Sri Lanka in 2016.

He didn't take a wicket in his four overs which cost 22 runs.

In 48 T20s Mills has taken 56 wickets at 21.39 each with an economy rate of 7.55 per over.

He has been playing for the Auckland Aces in the New Zealand Super Smash series in December, taking 10 wickets in 10 matches with an economy rate of 6.61.

Mills is expected to link with the Heat early next week and under BBL rules governing replacement players, must either play or be in the 12 for the next match he is available for.

"With Sam Badree and Josh Lalor both out injured at the moment, the opportunity to provide additional variety to the attack was very attractive,” Heat coach Dan Vettori said.

"Tymal has been going well for Auckland so he is match-ready.”
