Headless torso accused remanded in custody

THE Tanawha woman accused of murdering her fiancé and butchering his body, remains behind bars after her matter was heard briefly in court today.

Lindy Yvonne Williams, 56, is accused of murdering George Gerbic, 66 and interfering with his corpse.

Mr Gerbic was identified as the mysterious "headless torso" at Cedar Pocket Rd at Gympie.

Police made the grisly discovery in September last year, but it was not until July 16 this year that the charges were laid against Ms Williams.

Mr Gerbic's hands were severed above the wrist, his torso separated below the rib cage and neck and backbone severed just above the collar bone.

His charred remains on the side of the road made for a lengthy and tedious process for police to identify the body.

Ms Williams did not appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court yesterday, instead her Legal Aid lawyer, Mark Dixon appeared on her behalf.

She was remanded in custody to reappear on December 1.
