TIPPING competitions have been a nightmare this season, with the inconsistent Bulldogs and Broncos among the biggest culprits.
After losing to the struggling Parramatta in round nine, the Broncos bounced back to thrash the Titans last weekend.
The Bulldogs have been just as hard to predict, a win against the Warriors in Wellington in round nine followed by a disastrous 44-8 loss to the equally-inconsistent Knights on Sunday.
Speaking ahead of tomorrow night's game against the Dogs at ANZ Stadium, giant Brisbane prop David Hala said he believed his side went a long way towards rectifying the problem in the 32-6 win over the Titans.
"We've been trying to find those right combinations within the team, but on Friday night I felt like we did find those combinations, and we played pretty well," he said.
Hala has been in dynamic form for the Broncos off the bench this season, making 93m against the Gold Coast in 29 minutes.
He said plenty would be riding on the clash with the Broncos sitting sixth with a 5-5 record, while the Bulldogs are languishing in 13th with a 4-6 return.
"Both teams will be desperate for a win. We really need this win going into Origin time," Hala said.
He also said he was confident the team could be competitive during the Origin period after debutant Jake Granville and fellow youngsters Ben Hunt, Jordan Kahu and Jarrod Wallace played well against the Titans.
"It's a credit to the club we've kept these players. With injuries and suspensions, these guys have showed they can step up and fill their roles," Hala said.
"Origin is a great opportunity for a lot of players that have been missing the 17."
