Grant Hackett backers reveal real reason

SWIMMING: Olympic champion Grant Hackett flew to the US yesterday to receive treatment for an addiction to the sleeping pill Stilnox.

While the dual 1500m gold medallist denied he was going into rehabilitation, his father Neville and manager Chris White both confirmed the reason for the trip.

"Grant is in transit to seek treatment for a dependency to Stilnox medication," White said in a statement.

And speaking on radio station Triple M, Neville Hackett said, "I think Grant is a little bit in denial. I'd say rehab is certainly something that's needed."
