Green light given for animal shelter
WORK is expected to start on the new Northern Rivers Animal Services shelter in Ballina this week.
Ballina Shire Council has given the NRAS permission to proceed with the renovation of its old pound facility at 61 Piper Dr, as the local government body embarked on its own new development next door.
Greg Clark's building team were scheduled to start work this week on the renovation.
Itr's been a long time in the pipeline. In late 2013, the NRAS committee completed the purchase of pound, and it has taken three years to conduct the necessary due diligence to undertake the shelter project.
Once completed, the shelter will offer more office accommodation as well as nine dog kennels and runs, a designated cat room, food preparation and storage areas.
Initially, the office admin team will relocate to the new premises to ensure all is ready before animals are brought into the facility.
