Great Moscow Circus benefits kids

THE Great Moscow Circus is returning to Rockhampton and two organisations caring for children with special needs can expect to benefit by thousands of dollars as a result.

Mayoress Gail Carter says circus owner Michael Edgley has pledged to give proceeds from the opening night to her charity.

"When the circus was last here three years ago, the charity night raised $15,000 and this year it could be $18,000," she said.

The windfall will be shared by Rockhampton Special School and Rockhampton Children's Cerebral Palsy charity.

Featuring 20 acts from Russia and around the world, including a human cannonball, acrobats and clowns, the Great Moscow Circus will arrive for a week of performances on Anzac Day, April 25, and will set up its big top at Rockhampton Cricket Grounds.

For the charity show, Youngs Bus Service will provide a free service from Mount Morgan, Gracemere, Emu Park and Yeppoon.

"Ticket prices for the charity performance are well below those for the other shows at $25 for adults and $15 for children," Ms Carter said.

"It will be an all-new show for 2012 emphasising the brilliance of the performers with an explosive array of acts featuring extraordinary skills and abilities."

She said that she had checked with Rockhampton RSL if it had any objections to the event being held on Anzac Day.

"Members of the RSL said they had no concerns with shops opening and the circus show going on after 1pm," she said.

Tickets can be ordered from the Pilbeam Theatre on 4927 4111 or via the internet at seeitlive.com.au.

Bookings for the free buses can be arranged by phoning Youngs on 4922 3813.
