Lennox surfer makes it to quarter finals of Women's Maxum

LENNOX Head surfer Cali McDonagh made it to the quarter-finals of the Women's Maxum Surf Classic event at Cronulla.

McDonagh was a standout in the lead-up with a solid win in her round of 16 heat against three other surfers.

The Cronulla event is the first in the 2013-2014 Australasia Pro Junior Series.

"I'm so happy to have made it to the quarter-finals," McDonagh said.

"I was simply trying to not put too much pressure on myself.

"The line-up was a bit of a lucky dip throughout the heat and I know all the other girls found it pretty tough as well.

McDonagh was eliminated in the quarter-final after registering an 11.03 (out of a possible 20).

She was pipped by Amiya Doyle who finished with an 11.47.

Lennox Head surfer Stephanie Single also competed in the event.

She was a surprise elimination in the round of 16 when she finished fourth in her heat with the low score of 5.97.

"It's definitely not the start to the Pro Junior Series I was hoping for," she said.

"The waves weren't too good and I just couldn't find anything so I'm definitely not happy."
