Good news for skatepark

AFTER such a long wait, local skaters can now look forward to the Lennox Head skatepark being finished by the end of March.

The battle for a skatepark at Lennox Head has a history dating back 10 years.

Williams Reserve won over the beachfront as the preferred site, and work was scheduled to start on the skatepark next to the new community centre this week.

Paul Scharka, an organiser of the annual Fair Go skateboarding festival, said news of work starting on the new skatepark was ‘awesome’.

Lennox Head youth led the charge to get action on the skatepark when they presented a petition to Ballina Shire Council in 2006.

Tom Gordon, then aged 12, instigated the petition.

The community centre also is due to be completed by the end of March.
