Women on inflatable flamingo sucked out to sea
TWO women on an inflatable toy flamingo had a close call when they were sucked out to sea in a tidal current at Tallebudgera Creek this afternoon.
Surf Life Saving Queensland lifeguards rescued the two 22-year-old women on a jetski after their flotation device was sucked out from the creek mouth to the ocean.
It is believed the women were caught in a current and were unable to paddle to safety.
Surf Life Saving Services co-ordinator Nathan Fife said swimmers needed to be cautious when taking inflatable toys into the water.
"The two women were sucked out through the mouth of the ocean side and just couldn't control their toy," Mr Fife said.
"Swimmers need to be really careful of this happening to them because the wind can play havoc on those inflatable toys and if you get caught in a a current they are easily sucked out."
Mr Fife said the women were in a bit of shock but were fine after they were rescued.
