Gold Coast road rage drama: Man charged
A MAN who allegedly drove his car towards a group of people, hit a vehicle and wedged one bystander between vehicles, has been charged by police.
Police said the Gold Coast drama began about 7.15pm on Sunday night.
Police allege a man drove a vehicle to the Spit at Main Beach where he pulled up next to three vehicles.
The occupants of the vehicles were standing beside their cars, police said.
A verbal exchange followed before the man then drove his vehicle towards the group, colliding with one of the vehicles.
One man managed to jump to safety while injuring his ankle while a second man was wedged between the vehicles, which resulted in a leg injury.
The men called for the assistance of police who then sighted the vehicle allegedly travelling at speed on the Esplanade at Surfers Paradise.
Police will further allege the vehicle was seen to turn right into Trickett Street and reached the Surfers Paradise Boulevard where it turned onto the light rail tracks before making its way onto the Gold Coast Highway, towards Southport.
The vehicle was located a short time later in Palmer Drive, Labrador where the man was taken into custody.
A 32-year-old Labrador man has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle and failing to remain at the scene of a crash and assist an injured person.
He will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
