Gladys ‘didn’t isolate’ after COVID test

New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian is under fire after allegations she kept working at Parliament and did not isolate while awaiting COVID-19 test results last week.

Her action would appear to be in contravention of NSW public health guidelines, that clearly state that people who have been tested must self-isolate until they are confirmed negative.

Test results are normally delivered within 24-72 hours, but the NSW Premier claims to have received her test results back faster.

Ms Berejiklian now says she took a test as a precaution after losing her voice.

Ms Berejiklian's office told The Australian that she had "no virus symptoms" and undertook the test out of an abundance of caution.

The Premier's office tonight told Nine News that she "did not require" a COVID-19 test but had taken one anyway.

"At no stage did the Premier have COVID-19 symptoms, and therefore did not require a test," Ms Berejiklian's office said in a statement.

"However, as the Premier began losing her voice, she took a precautionary test as she anticipated that she would be asked if she had had a COVID test.

"Given her role, the test was administered late in the afternoon and in her office.

"A rapid negative result was returned in around two hours."

The Australian newspaper, that broke the story on Monday afternoon, reported that "two well-placed government sources have confirmed to The Australian that Ms Berejiklian attended meetings with colleagues while awaiting the test results."

But the Premier's office has refused to provide a timeline of when she took the test, when she received her results, and any meetings she attended while she waited for the test results.

"She definitely had the test during the day and continued to be in parliament against the (NSW Health) advice of her own chief medical officer," the official told The Australian.

NSW Labor leader Jodi McKay said the Premier had questions to answer.

"Not only was she present at meetings during the day, the Premier was also on the floor of the House during her Treasurer's Budget speech at noon, and answering questions during Question Time from 2.15pm,'' she said.

"When did she get her test result and did she breach health regulations?

"The Premier reminds us every day how important it is to self isolate while waiting for COVID results. There are now questions that must be answered as to whether or not she followed her own health advice last week."
