Wright, Gilmore break through to Roxy Pro quarter finals

FAR North Coast surfers Tyler Wright and defending world champion Stephanie Gilmore are through to the quarter-finals of the Roxy Pro Gold Coast at Coolangatta.

Wright, of Lennox Head, looked impressive from the start in a tough third-round encounter with Courtney Conlogue (US) and Coco Ho (Hawaii).

Conlogue went on to defeat Nikki Van Dijk (Australia) in the fourth round and will face Wright again in the quarters.

Brazilian Silvana Lima delivered the most dominant performance of the Roxy Pro yet, posting the first perfect 10 of the season, and will face Gilmore for the third time in the competition.

Gilmore, of Kingscliff, won through the third round with a good wave in the final seconds.

The third and fourth rounds were contested in small, clean surf at Snapper Rocks

A layday was called yesterday in the men's Quiksilver Pro.
