GETTING into surfing has never been easier.

Now you can hire a stand up paddle board in Coffs Harbour.

Local couple Cheryl and Geoff Vigors have set up Coffs Jetty Stand Up Paddle Board Hire and are currently operating every Saturday, Sunday and Monday from a marquee on the beach at the southern side of the Jetty.

"Our son lives on the Gold Coast where stand up paddling is extremely popular and when friends in Sydney told us how quickly the sport was catching on we decided we wanted to bring it to Coffs," Cheryl Vigors said.

"We're in our 60s and find stand up paddle boarding fun, easy and very good exercise."

The couple have 12 imported epoxy paddle boards available for hire.

"Stand up paddle boarding is for everyone. We've had kids as young as eight through to families and even grandparents hiring our boards in the couple of weeks since we opened the business.

"The harbour is a fantastic place to learn to paddle board. You don't have to stand up right away and the boards can be used while sitting down or kneeling until you get the hang of it."

The boards are wider than your average Malibu board which makes them easier to balance, plus because you're standing up, you get a clear view of our stunning coastline.
