Getaway car lets trio down in shoplifting incident at IGA

IT WAS an unreliable getaway car that stopped three people getting off with more than $1000 in stolen groceries from Drake's Supa IGA Glenmore yesterday.

Store manager Scott Perel said about four staff chased the two males and a female to their car, but they all ran away when the car wouldn't start.

"Basically they came into the store and put $1071.34 worth of food into a trolley and went through the register without paying," Mr Perel said yesterday.

"They've then gone to their car in the car park, which looked to be stolen because the back window was smashed. The staff were trying to keep them in the car park so they could be caught by police."

Mr Perel said luckily some police were at the nearby Subway and store staff notified them.

"One of them was apprehended by police who chased them on foot and they were still trying to find the other two people," he said.

Mr Perel said the whole incident had shocked and disgusted him, and the trio had shown no respect for his staff.

Senior Sergeant Tom Nelson of Rockhampton police said the man the police caught had been taken into custody yesterday afternoon.

Investigations were continuing into the other male and female who were involved.
