Gayle blasts his way to 10,000 T20 runs

CRICKET: West Indian master blaster Chris Gayle has become the first man to score 10,000 Twenty20 runs after a typically hard-hitting half-century for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League.

Gayle achieved the milestone in his 290th Twenty20 match - running three singles off his first five deliveries.

He then went on to smash 77 off 38 balls with captain Virat Kohli adding 64 as the Challengers ran up 213-2 against the Gujarat Lions.

The left-hander plundered seven sixes and five fours, putting on 122 runs for the opening wicket with Kohli off just 76 balls.

In reply, Brendon McCullum hit 72 off 44 deliveries with seven sixes and two fours, but the Lions fell short by 21 runs.
