Gallen injury blow for Sharks in defeat

NSW and Cronulla captain Paul Gallen could be missing for up to four months after injuring his ankle in the Sharks' 18-12 defeat to the Gold Coast Titans at Remondis Stadium last night.

Gallen was set for scans today on the syndesmosis problem amid fears the injury could be bad enough to keep him out until after the first State of Origin clash.

The Blues star's injury and Andrew Fifita put on report for a shoulder charge late in the second half, compounded the woes for the Sharks, who struggled to find any fluency in a war of attrition with the Titans.

The visitors led 10-6 at half-time thanks to a try from skipper Greg Bird and a length-of-the-field intercept try to Albert Kelly after debutant Tinirau Arona had opened the scoring for the Sharks.

After the break Wade Graham went over for the home side before Aidan Sezer levelled with a penalty goal. It appeared as if the game was heading for golden point before William Zillman pounced on a Kelly grubber kick with eight minutes left to touchdown with Sezer's conversion sealing the victory.
