Fundraiser to provide for dolphin conservation projects
THROUGH celebrating the migration of the iconic humpback whale, a local marine conservation group hopes to raise money for a species which doesn't often get the same recognition.
As part of their Mid North Coast travelling film tour, not-for-profit organisation Dolphin Research Australia is holding a fundraiser at the National Marine Science Centre tonight.
Internationally acclaimed film The Whale, which tells the story of a young killer whale that becomes separated from his family and seeks the friendship of people, will be screened from 6.30pm.
Guests will also be treated to a question-and-answer session with marine mammal expert and Dolphin Research Australia founder, Dr Liz Hawkins.
In the past five years Dr Hawkins has helped set up Dolphin Sighting Networks at Byron Bay and the Gold Coast.
A third is expected to be launched at Coffs Harbour in the near future.
All proceeds from tonight's event will go towards the organisation's research, education and conservation projects.
Tickets are available at the door and cost $15pp.
