Fun times brewing at Ballina Fine Wine, Fun and Food Fair

BEER drinkers will have reason to head to this year's Ballina Fine Wine, Fun and Food Fair.

Organiser of the Rotary Club of Ballina-on-Richmond event Milton Colburt said boutique beers had become very popular.

And matching beers to particular food had also become "quite a big thing", he said.

The amber fluid produced by Byron Bay brewers Stone & Wood will be featured at the fair, along with other beers, at the stand of major event sponsor Dan Murphy's.

Mr Colburt said included in the food and wine tasting program for the event would be meat pies served with beer that matched the taste.

Tickets are now on sale for the fair, which is in its fourth year.

It will be held at the Ballina Jockey Club on August 18, from 1-5pm.

Mr Colburt said there had been some changes for this year's event, but the high quality of the wine and food would be the same.

The decision had been made to move the event inside, and a limited number of tickets would be pre-sold.

Mr Colburt said the weather had proved too unreliable at the previous shows, forcing the move inside.

There will be 40 exhibitors at this year's fair, including a beer brewer.

And it will be an interactive event, with food and wines to match throughout.

Proceeds of the fair will go to Marine Rescue Ballina.

Mr Colburt said the fair was popular, so the tip was to get in early.
