Professional guide helps career mums settle in to new bubs
BLOGGER, publisher, mum and former corporate high-flyer Jane Copeland has launched her first book which lifts the lid on what every modern career girl needs to know when she's expecting.
Boardroom to Baby is a guide for professional women who are having a baby for the first time.
It gives an honest, open, funny and realistic account of the process of becoming a mother, that aims to help women new to motherhood feel empowered and mentally prepared for the arrival of their baby.
After giving birth to her first child at the age of 37, Jane realised that her dreams of going back to her highflying senior management job were quickly becoming a distant memory.
As a result, she set up the blogazine CopingwithJane in July 2012 to help career women like herself successfully navigate motherhood, and redefine their career and life after having children.
Following the success of the blog Jane decided to compile her insights and knowledge on being a first-time mum over the age of 30 and put them into a book.
"I read all the books and was a regular on the baby websites.
"But once my baby was born I realised that for all my reading, nothing actually told me all the stuff I really needed to know.
"The main one being how much having a baby would actually change my life," she said.
"It's possible the birth of a first child will be the biggest personal transformation that a woman will ever experience on this earth.
"But it's not too often that you hear people discuss the actual transformation that occurs. This is what inspired me to write this book."
The book covers all stages of becoming a first-time mum, from becoming pregnant to giving birth, including how the body changes, balancing work and having a baby, and dealing with unwanted advice.
Each chapter includes links to further reading and information in the form of blog posts, videos, podcasts and worksheets on the blog.
