Video: Alleged offenders arrested after four cars stolen

TWO alleged offenders who kept the police on a wild chase in and around Gladstone for hours yesterday stole four cars, leaving one in flames and two on train tracks, were arrested late yesterday afternoon.

The hunt started when a man and woman allegedly stole a green Holden Commodore in West Gladstone and headed towards Gladstone.

They drove the Holden west on Glenlyon Rd before stopping at a property on Facing Dr., off Glenlyon Rd.

The owners of the property were preparing for an open house and saw the man pour petrol over the Holden while the woman inspected their car.

The man allegedly lit a match and torched the Holden before getting into the property owners' Mitsubishi and heading towards Gladstone.

Real estate agent Jock Gaughan had been driving toward the house when he crossed paths with the alleged vehicle thieves.

"They nearly took me out," he said.

"They were fishtailing around the corner of the dirt road and I had to swerve to get out of the way."

The Mitsubishi was left near train tracks in Callemondah and the pair headed towards the Gladstone Power Station in a black ute.

While police were looking for the ute, a call came in saying a white Toyota LandCruiser had been stolen from a property in Beecher.

A television cameraman going west towards Calliope saw the car and said the driver tried to run him off the road intentionally while heading back into Gladstone.

The Toyota was seen driving down a dirt trail off Haddock Rd towards Sun Valley before it was reported to have become stuck on the train tracks near the Gladstone BMX Club.

A train heading towards Gladstone stopped within 100 metres of the stricken utility.

Police believed the alleged culprits were then fleeing on foot while police sniffer dogs searched for them.

Gladstone police confirmed last night they had caught two people believed to be those responsible.
