Fortnite scraps controversial glider changes
Just when fans were settling into the new Fortnite glider redeploy, Epic Games has launched yet another update.
The latest Fortnite patch notes were released overnight and users can expect big changes, some of which are already proving to be divisive.
The biggest change in this week's update is to the glider, which is used by players to traverse the game's maps easily.
Players were originally able to skydive and redeploy their glider if they found themselves falling from a height of 15m.
That will now change as skydiving is no longer available during redeploys.
The jump height for redeploys has also changed, with developers increasing the threshold from 15m to 35m.
Unfortunately, I found this out the hard way, after dying from "fall damage", which can occur during falls from extreme heights.
Any changes to the glider can be controversial, but this update will likely prove healthier for the game in the long run.
The update also means it will be much easier to die from fall damage, so players will now need to be cautious of enemies knocking down their bases.
It seems the gaming community is divided on whether the glider redeploy update was useful or not.
Popular Fortnite commentator, TimtheTatman, polled about 165,000 gamers on Twitter overnight, asking if they wanted to can the glider redeploy.
The results were split 51-49 in favour of abolishing the feature.
In its newest Limited-Time Mode (LTM), Fortnite will pit the characters Durr-Burger and Pizza Pit against each other, with a barrier established to separate the two opponents.
Players must build to protect their team mascot, with the first to destroy the other's mascot declared the winner.
The best change in the suite of updates is that the LTM features a respawn function.
This means that dying doesn't automatically translate to "game over" for players, unlike regular Battle Royale matches.
Speaking of Battle Royale, Epic Games has introduced a new trap item - a Mounted Turret to defend player's builds.
Using this item will spawn a turret for characters to sit on and fire rounds at their enemies or other buildings.
This position can result in major damage to opponents but also leaves players pretty exposed to incoming fire, so watch out for snipers.
The platform that players place the turret on is automatically rendered impenetrable and also has unlimited ammunition capability.
However it can overheat if used for too long.
This is an awesome new feature that will see enemies taken completely by surprise and peppered with bullets.
In other big changes to Battle Royale, player's pickaxe damage has been increased from 10 damage points to 20, quad crasher spawn rates have doubled, and players who have been knocked will now live for longer before being eliminated.
