Former Socceroo joins his new team in the Premier League

SOCCEROOS midfielder Mile Jedinak will be playing in the Premier League next season after leading Crystal Palace to a 1-0 win over Watford in the Championship play-off final at Wembley yesterday.

Veteran former England striker Kevin Phillips, who turns 40 in July, came off the bench to score an extra-time penalty to secure the South London side a return to the top flight for the first time since the 2004-2005 season.

The playoff final, said to be the richest game in world football, will increase Palace's revenue by a whopping $A188 million.

Jedinak, the Palace captain and the Eagles' player of the year, and his teammates join Cardiff City and Hull City in graduating from the Championship this season.

It will be the first taste of playing in the big time for Jedinak, 28, who has played 38 times for the Socceroos, after he joined Palace in 2011.

He had played in Turkey for three years after leaving A-League side, Central Coast Mariners.

He could find himself as one of the few Aussies plying their trade in the league next season alongside Mark Schwarzer (Fulham), Brett Holman (Aston Villa), Brad Jones (Liverpool), and Chris Herd (Aston Villa).
