Former MP Craig Thomson guilty of porn, prostitute fraud
Former federal MP Craig Thomson has been found guilty in the Melbourne Magistrates Court of obtaining financial advantage by using his Health Services Union credit card to pay for sex services and making cash withdrawals.
Thomson pleaded not guilty to 145 charges of theft and deception relating to the alleged misuse of his union credit card while national secretary of the HSU.
It was alleged he used the card to pay for prostitutes, pornographic movies and other personal expenses totalling more than $28,000.
Thomson faces a maximum sentence of five years' jail.
Whistleblower Kathy Jackson, who took over as national secretary when Thomson resigned in 2007, described the union as "being like a cult".
