Krillich to Broncos: Brookvale beats Suncorp Stadium

FORMER Manly captain and Test hooker Max Krillich has hit back at Brisbane's forward Todd Lowrie's criticism of Brookvale Oval, saying at least fans don't get a nose bleed like they do at Suncorp Stadium.

Lowrie made sure Manly fans will give him a special welcome when Brisbane takes on the ladder leader on Friday night, describing Brookvale Oval as a s**thole.

"Everybody can't play at Suncorp (Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium) where if you're up the top, you get a nose bleed," said Krillich who played 215 games for Manly during the 1970s and 80s.

Lowrie, who last week celebrated his 200th NRL game, didn't restrict his criticism just to the ground's surface, which he said was wet and boggy, but was also critical of the "crappy" dressing rooms and the nightmare bus trip to the ground.

"He doesn't like Brookie, good, I hope he gets his arse kicked," laughed Krillich, who as a player was never one to mix his words.

"Big deal, I used to hate playing at Lidcombe Oval and Henson Park (Newton).

"I hope he trips in one of the potholes, but good luck to him for speaking his mind."

Few teams like travelling to Brookvale Oval, not because of the ground conditions but because it's the toughest venue in the NRL to come away from with two premiership points.

After losing its first home game by a point to Melbourne, Manly has won nine straight.

It's a daunting assignment for Brisbane, which has won just five of 15 visits to the northern beaches ground, which still boasts a supporters' hill.

Krillich said Manly was in awesome form under former halfback Geoff Toovey, who had instilled a fierce fighting culture into the players.
