WITHOUT the aid of a scapel, Janet Lynam is able to perform radical weight-loss surgery.

But instead of operating on a person's digestive system, she focuses on their mind and uses hypnotherapy to change her client's mindset.

Ms Lynam is a traineed hypnotherapist who has specialised in gastric-banding hypnosis.

Her clients are lead through a series of relaxation exercises and reasons why they are overweight are explored.

By using the the subconscious mind, weight loss and other problems then also become automatic

Ms Lynam said her clients reported not being able to eat as much after the sessions.

"More than ever before people are worried about their weight," Ms Lynam said.

"The weight loss industry is one of the largest industries on the planet and yet the problem continues to grow at an alarming rate.

"More and more people are spending untold dollars in an effort to solve this problem.

"Maybe it is not just a body problem, but a mind problem."

Ms Lynam launched her busines, If I Can Dream Hypnotherapy in January."One of my clients lost two to three kilograms in the first week, then she started losing one-kilogram a week," she said.

"She said to me that she just can't eat the way that she used to.

"Most people know that we only use 10 per cent of our minds.

"If we could utilise some of the other 90 per cent surely that would make a big difference?

"(It's about) harnessing the power of the subconscious mind which only exists to keep us alive.

"This part of our mind actually runs all of our bodily systems automatically.

"By using the the subconscious mind, weight loss and other problems then also become automatic."

Ms Lynam also offers hypnosis for other medical ailments, chronic pain and other physical symptoms.
