FORGET about life beginning at 40.

For one Toowoomba woman it began at 70.

Sr Pat Quinn feels like she's 50 again and has decided she never wants to retire after taking part in a simple education program that helped her shed 37kg.

At 74, that's no small feat.

After a lifelong struggle with her weight and a hip replacement surgery that laid her up for long enough to put on even more, she was in despair.

She sat in her armchair wondering if she could even get out of it to continue her cherished job as a counsellor.

But she picked up The Chronicle three years ago and saw a notice about the Complete Health Improvement Program.

The month-long program piqued her interest, so she headed along to an information evening.

At the end of the month she had started losing weight and gaining energy through making simple changes in her diet and lifestyle, so she decided to keep it up.

Three years later she has managed to maintain her weight and improve her fitness further.

"I was desperate.

"I was in so much pain. I had had a hip replacement and put on a lot of weight, and I have carried a lot of weight all my life.

"I had always done it on my own but this time I needed a group to help me.

"I figured I can try anything for a month, so I gave it a go.

"Now I'm in no pain and I feel like I'm 50 again.

A month later, her weight had dropped, her cholesterol had dropped and her blood pressure was back to normal.

Two CHIP information sessions are coming up in Toowoomba on February 11 and 15 for those who would like to know more.
