First look at Geoffrey Rush as Albert Einstein

GEOFFREY Rush looks suitably contemplative in the first image released from the set of Genius.

The award-winning Australian actor portrays theoretical physicist Albert Einstein in the 10-part anthology series currently filming in Prague.

The Toowoomba native bears a striking resemblance to Einstein, sporting his neat mustache and wily crop of grey hair.

Genius will chart how an imaginative, rebellious patent clerk, who could not get a teaching job or a doctorate, unlocked the mysteries of the atom and the universe.

Each episode will explore Einstein's extraordinary scientific achievements, along with his volatile, passionate and complex personal relationships.

Johnny Flynn portrays the legendary scientist in his early years, with Rush taking over as Einstein reaches the prime of his career.

Rush and Flynn are joined in the cast by Emily Watson, Michael McElhatton, Seth Gabel, Samantha Colley, Richard Topol and Vincent Kartheiser.

The 10-part series will air on National Geographic next year, with the first episode directed by Ron Howard in his first time directing a scripted prime-time drama.
