Fire crews save home from being destroyed by flames

UPDATE: A HOUSE fire at Mullaway today caused extensive damage to the top storey of a home and an adjoining garage destroying a motor vehicle parked inside.

Fire crews and police were called to Sun St around 9.30am.

Police were told children walking pass the home noticed smoke and flames rising from the premises.

Woolgoolga and Coffs Harbour Fire and Rescue crews were on scene a short time later and quickly extinguished the blaze.

The occupants were not home at the time, but returned a short time later to discover the tragic news, Fire and Rescue firefighters said.

Investigators have undertaken a forensic examination at the address to establish the cause and origin of the fire.

Firefighters said flames were fuelled by combustibles stored inside the garage at the height of the fire.

Investigations continue and a structural damage report will be completed.
