Fired-up 36ers exact revenge on Bullets

BASKETBALL: Their clash had been built up all week, but it was the Adelaide 36ers who delivered the knockout blow to the Brisbane Bullets in the NBL clash on Thursday night.

The two teams had traded blows on social media following the Bullets' easy win in Adelaide last week, during which Daniel Kickert was fined for headbutting.

But it was the visiting 36ers who came out swinging first at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, launching with 36 points to 18 on their way to a 101-83 upset victory.

Brisbane coach Andrej Lemanis pulled no punches when it came to criticism of his own team after the game.

"As a collective group no one was doing the required work to be successful in this league,” he said.

"We were looking to cheat our way through the game as opposed to work our way through the game.

"You can't expect to give away (36 points in the first quarter) and expect good things to happen.

"But the thing is, it's one game and we need to move on.”

Adelaide coach Joey Wright had also been fined for comments on Twitter when responding to Kickert's claims the 36ers were snitches, and admitted the mid-week fireworks played a part in the win.

"I think it did for sure,” he said.

"I don't think we did anything to deserve that ... I think it definitely fired (us) up.

"It's something we talked about, the Adelaide 36ers brand has been around a long time.

"To trash that, that was just disrespectful.”

Jerome Randle led Adelaide scorers with 22, ably assisted by Nathan Sobey and Daniel Johnson (both 18).

Imports Torrey Craig (20) and Jermaine Beal (16) led the way for Brisbane.
