It can mean only one thing - the much touted iPhone 6 is nearing its inevitable release date.

The rumour mill has been in overdrive recently with suggestions that the iPhone 6 will be officially unveiled on September 9 and released soon after.

JB Hi-Fi Bundaberg telecommunication adviser Nathan Mortensen said he had been inundated with customer interest for the next Apple device.

"We've had a lot of people come in to look at handsets and they say they'll just wait for the iPhone 6," he said

"The interest level with Apple is always quite high."

While nothing is set in stone, rumours have suggested there will be not just one iPhone but two.

The two versions are apparently a 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch with the latter to have a sapphire glass coating on the screen to make it stronger and scratch resistant.

Early reports say the iPhone 6 will have a higher screen resolution, new software with IOS 8, and the obligatory improvements to the battery, camera and processor.

With competition fierce and the smart phone landscape now filled with alternatives such as Samsung Galaxy S5, LG G3, Sony Xperia Z2 and HTC One M8, Mr Mortensen said Apple would need to make a great impression.

"There are hundreds of android sets now and only a handful of iPhones," he said.

"The display on the LG G3 is insane.

"Like the iPhone there is always rumours of the next Samsung handset," Mr Mortensen said.
