Female armed robber who fled jail caught

A WOMAN who escaped from a Sydney jail while serving time for armed robbery was arrested near Wardell on Tuesday.

Jade Nykolyn was sentenced to three years and nine months' jail at Dubbo District Court on January 31 for armed robbery in nearby Wellington.

She escaped from the Bolwarra House transitional facility attached to the Emu Plains Correctional Centre on September 14 with three other women.

Inspector Cameron Lindsay said the 30-year-old was sighted in the Ballina CBD on Tuesday.

"Police acted on information received about the woman to arrest her," he said.

Insp Lindsay said the woman, who was in the back seat of a blue Toyota Celica, was arrested when the car was pulled over as it was travelling south on the Pacific Hwy toward Wardell about 4.30pm.

Nykolyn was taken to Ballina police station and charged with escaping lawful custody.

She appeared at Lismore Local Court yesterday where she was refused bail.

Insp Lindsay said investigations were continuing into the owner of the car.
