Felicity wins second world duathlon title

FIVE years after she won her first, Australia's Felicity Sheedy-Ryan has claimed a second world title in elite women's duathlon - the second world title won by Australian multi-sport athletes in the past month.

The win at Penticton, Canada, comes despite a lead-up hindered by a serious ankle injury which impacted on Sheedy-Ryan's run training prior to Sunday's world championships.

The win follows on from Ashleigh Gentle and Jake Birtwhistle combining with Charlotte McShane and teenager Matt Hauser to win the mixed teams relay world championship last month.

Sheedy-Ryan broke from her rivals in the bike leg and then secured her win with a top run in the final leg of the race.

"Yeah, it feels awesome,'' Sheedy-Ryan said. "I wasn't relaxed until the last couple hundred metres because anything can happen but I am absolutely happy to take home a second title."
