Council to consider rezoning 15ha at Lennox Head reservoir
AN APPLICATION to rezone 15ha of land at the prominent water reservoir site at Lennox Head will be debated at this week's Ballina Shire Council meeting.
The site has frontages to North Creek Rd and Henderson Lane and an existing concrete water reservoir is located on the eastern boundary.
It is currently zoned for primary production.
However, at tomorrow's meeting, councillors will consider an application for a mix of zones, including low and medium-density residential, open space and environmental protection.
The landowners have indicated they intend to create a 150-lot subdivision.
The council's strategic services group manager, Steve Barnier, said local and regional planning strategies had identified the reservoir hill site as suitable for residential development.
"A number of proposals have been presented for this site in the past," he said.
"It's a fairly prominent site.
"There have been some initial concerns, because some of the blocks being proposed are 450sq m. But there is still a lot more work to be done.
"We will need to examine much more closely what is appropriate for this estate."
If the rezoning of the water reservoir site is endorsed by the council, a planning proposal will be sent to New South Wales Planning and Infrastructure for review and Gateway determination.
This would be followed by a third-party review and environmental study of the land.
A further report would be presented to the council before the planning proposal is placed on public exhibition.
