Fatal daytime shooting during school holidays condemned

THE daylight execution of a young Sydney man in the front yard of a home during school holidays has been condemned by homicide detectives as evil and unacceptable in modern-day Australia.

The most brazen underworld shooting the western suburbs has seen in years took place in a quite street at Abbotsbury, near Fairfield, about 10am Friday.

While police have yet to confirm the identity of the victim, it is understood the man was married and had several siblings.

Distraught relatives were comforted at the scene which remained surrounded by police tape on Friday night.

Detective Superintendent Peter Lennon told reporters in Sydney the man was stalked for several hours before being shot.

A link between Friday's shooting and the fatal shooting of a Hell's Angel earlier this week had not been confirmed on Friday but Det Supt Lennon said there were people out there who "know what's going on".

He said it was unacceptable in Australian society for "this sort of behaviour" to go on in 2013 and urged those in the know to have a change of heart and come forward.

Anyone with information can phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
