GARY Lay was relaxing at home Saturday afternoon when he got a call from a neighbour saying "I think your vehicles are on fire".

By the time the Homebush grazier travelled back to his Barrie Lane property at Eton, his best truck was alight and about a hectare of paddock was ringed with thigh-high flames.

Although he had tanks nearby for fighting fire, he called the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service who arrived at the property about 5pm.

Fire fighter Carl Jackson said once they arrived the grass fire was out but the truck was 'fully involved'.

The crew extinguished it with the help of Eton Rural Fire Fighters and Mr Lay.

"The owner did a really good job in knocking down the fire originally," Mr Jackson said.

Mr Lay believed the fire was first sparked by embers from a timber stack he'd burnt on Wednesday.

"We burnt timber off during the week and today the fire must have crossed the break. It's just crossed into the pasture which hasn't been grazed. It's a pretty thick body of grass," Mr Lay said.

"And the truck was in the way of it."

Despite the full tank of fuel on board the flaming truck, the only explosions came from tyres bursting.

A number of tractors were also in the vicinity, and Mr Lay wasn't sure what lead the fire to take hold of only the truck, the "best one" of the two he owned.

"I'm not going to take a photo of it. I don't want to be reminded," he said.

Thankfully, he said it was insured.
