Farmer critical after 72 hours trapped under hay baler

A FARMER is in a critical condition after somehow surviving for 72 hours trapped beneath a hay baler.

The man was freed about 9.30pm on Tuesday after a three-hour rescue operation at the Mt Duneed property, near Geelong in Victoria.

Nine News reports crews were forced to cut into the hay baler in order to free the man.

He had suffered a "severe crush injury" to his upper leg and was trapped in the machine.

There has not been an explanation so far on how the man came to be stuck in the hay baler, although it is understood he was working with the machine before the incident.
