Faith, Jordan star for Bears

BALLINA Bears and Tintenbar-East Ballina are well-placed after day one of LJ Hooker League last Saturday, while Alstonville will need to bat well to beat Cudgen.

Bears scored 8-246 declared and have Byron Bay 1-11 at Les Cave Oval, Murwillumbah.

Stuart Faith (67) gave Bears a great start before they slumped from 0-71 to 7-145.

That’s when Cullum Jordan (69) joined Sam Lawro (28 not out) at the crease for a 91-run partnership.

Tintenbar-East Ballina (1-60) appear headed for at least first-innings points against Lennox Head (120) at Megan Crescent Oval, Lennox Head.

Todd Fisher top-scored for Lennox with 52 in only his second innings back from a serious knee injury playing rugby.

Brett Crawford (4-37 from 24 overs) and English off-spinner Mark Hoare (4-25 from 14 overs) did the damage with the ball for the ’Bar.

Cudgen made 204 against Alstonville at Hill Park Oval, Wollongbar, on the back of Craig Wilson’s third century of the season.

Wilson made 122 before eventually being bowled by left-arm spinner Steve Robb, who finished with 4-63 from 24 overs.
